Colour-Pencils Group Rules

:pointr: Submission limit:  One submission per folder per week.

:pointr: Please submit your work the correct folder.  For more information on what goes in each folder, please read here: Folder Submission Guidelines.

:pointr: The work must be done by colored pencils.  If it is a mixed media, the majority (75% or more) must be done with colored pencils.  We do not accept works that are done primarily with graphite pencil, charcoal, pen, marker, or paint.

:pointr: The following are all accepted as colored pencils: regular colored pencils, watercolor pencils, pastel pencils, and art sticks.  At this time we do not accept works done primarily with graphite pencils.  If you have a question about what qualifies as a "colored pencil", please send me a note.  I will be more than happy to help.

:pointr: Please list your materials in description:  Please state in your description exactly which media and materials were used in the creation of your drawing. This is not required but very helpful. This will allow us to vote faster, as we will not have to message you and ask.  (Example: Prismacolor colored pencils on tinted Canson paper, 24” x 36”).

:pointr: Monochromatic Drawings: We DO accept monochromatic drawings as long as they are done 100% with colored pencils.  Black colored pencils on white paper or white colored pencils on black paper are ok.

:pointr: Good quality scan/photo: Please make sure your scan or photograph of your artwork is clear and not blurry or faded.  Please make sure that it is cropped appropriately and presented in a clean manner.  Even the best drawings can look awful if they are photographed blurry, or scanned with rough edges or tilted.

:pointr: We do not accept drawings on lined or graph paper.

:pointr: Please only submit your best work.  We try to display works in our group that are professional or near professional in quality.  We are looking for high technical skill, good coloring technique, detail, light and shadow, good anatomy and proportion, composition, and originality.  For most of the galleries, realism is preferred, with the exception of the anime/cartoon folders.  However, we still expect high quality art in the anime/cartoon folders as well.

:pointr: We strive to be a high quality art gallery on DA! While you do not have to be a professional artist to contribute works here, the art must be of a high quality. We would like to display in our gallery the best of colored pencil works on DeviantArt, to show other people the amazing and extraordinary things that can be done with colored pencils.  This will give other artists, especially young or amateur artists, inspiration and motivation.  As such, we will not accept every single drawing ever simply because it was drawn with colored pencils.

:pointr: No offensive drawings:  We also try to keep the gallery decent, and so nothing offensive, no violent images or pornographic images.  Artistic nudes are allowed as long as it is tasteful.

:pointr: Please, no works in progress!  Please submit finished works only.

Why was my submission declined? It could be for a variety of reasons.  First, we will decline a drawing if it is not submitted to the right folder.  We will also decline a picture if it is poorly photographed or scanned (blurry, faded, etc).  We also will decline if the drawing is not up to our standards.

Please don't be offended or discouraged if your submission is declined.  It does not mean your art was not good or that you are a bad artist.  You are welcome to send us a message asking why and we will do our best to reply, give advice and even constructive criticism.  All submissions are accepted or declined based on a group decision: just because you are a member—or even an Admin—does not mean your work will automatically be accepted.  Please understand that here at Colour-Pencils, we are trying to showcase the absolute best color pencil drawings on Deviant Art and have very high standards.

Please do not be discouraged if your art was declined.  Instead, view our gallery to get inspiration and try again!  We encourage all young and new artists to practice, practice, practice, in order to improve!  Just remember, all the artists you see here were once beginners, too!
